# What is DIVA Donate

DIVA Donate is an innovative platform that leverages blockchain technology to enable **parametric conditional donations**. In parametric conditional donations, funds are deposited into an escrow upfront and its release is tied to the outcome of a certain event or metric in the future (e.g., rainfall amount, carbon emissions, inflation rates, corn price, vegetation index, etc.).

The parametric conditional donation model implemented on the blockchain offers several advantages compared to traditional donations:

1. **Efficient:** The parametric nature of the approach lends itself to automation which **cuts operational costs by 75% and accelerates fund release by 90%** compared to traditional models.
2. **Transparent:** Every donation and the outcome reporting are verifiable on the blockchain, establishing trust among donors.
3. **Global access:** Enables worldwide participation at low cost, allowing contributions of any size from anywhere.
4. **Greater control:** Donors are given a greater sense of control by choosing the conditions under which donations shall occur and by retaining control over their funds due to the possibility to claim them back if no donation is triggered.
5. **Trustless\*:** The funds are held in a trustless programmatic escrow, eliminating the risk of fraud or misuse.

*\*Note that campaigns may still involve trusted elements like custodians if beneficiaries cannot claim the funds themselves from the smart contract (e.g., due to absence of blockchain-enabled smartphones).*

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://diva-donate.gitbook.io/overview/what-is-diva-donate.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
